From the gentle farmlands of Paradise, Pennsylvania, to the unknown wilds of mountainous southwest China, young Mary Buchwalter courageously left her family and all that was familiar to answer the call God had given her. Filled with the Holy Spirit during the revivals of the early twentieth century, she joined the newly formed Assemblies of God and became one of their missionaries. While in China, she met and married a young man from England, Alfred Lewer, a missionary under the Pentecostal Mission Union (PMU). They served together until 1924, when tragically, Alfred Lewer drowned in the swift Mekong River while enroute to meet a new missionary, Leonard Bolton, coming to serve with him. Mary Lewer never wavered from her dedication to the Lord despite her sorrow and hardships of every kind. With her two young daughters, she continued to live out her calling to the precious Lisu and Chinese people. Someone Must Go is her story and testimony, but it is also her challenge to future generations.
